Labs

Common lab tests to assess cardiometabolic health and inform risk management:

  • Total cholesterol

    Triglycerides

    HDL

    LDL

    Non-HDL

  • More accurate assessment of atherogenic lipoprotein burden (compared to LDL)

  • Inherited risk

  • Nonspecific inflammatory marker. When persistently >3.0 it is associated with increased cardiovascular risk.

  • Important component of endothelial health, correlates cardiovascular risk

  • Complete metabolic panel: liver and kidney function, electrolytes

  • Complete blood count: white blood cells, red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelets

  • TSH ± free T4 ± other thyroid labs

  • Average blood sugar over a 90-120 day time frame

  • Fasting insulin, c-peptide, insulin resistance score
